Does anybody know what a CD 330 is?

Post by Derek Hillen »

Is a 330 the same as a 33? I am trying to install a windvane on my CD 33 and it has been measured for a CD 330. Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers.

As far as I can tell there were three different 33's. They are:

1. The Alberg designed 33. From my 85 catalog it had a traditional
straight cockpit well area, small enclosed head on the port side,
"L" shaped galley area on the portside. Cutter rig with 546 sq
feet of sail.
2. The Alberg designed 330. From my 87 catalog it has the same hull
and sail area. However, the cockpit and interior was totally
redesigned. To give more room in the cockpit the foot well was
given a "T" shape. This gave more room for the helmsperson. The
head was moved to the starboard side and the galley "L" was changed
so that the galley ran straight along the portside. This version
of the boat was just to make the boat more spacious like some of
the CD40 features. I believe the basic hull, displacement, sail
area all remained the same.
3. The Alberg desinged "33 Classic" as made by Newport Ship. It has
all the same specs as the #1 and #2 CD33s above EXCEPT the sail
area was increased from 546 to 561 square feet. I do not know if
this was a rebalancing of the main to stay sail/foresail or if the
all the sail areas increased. Also I do not have enough info to
tell you if the cockpit remained in the "T" form with the newer
interior. The hull specs still remained the same as above.

Hope it helps.....

Derek,

I recently purchased a CD330 and I believe that there are some significant differences in the hull as well as the furniture plan.
The 33 was designed as a sloop rig, was a narrower beam 10'3", and lighter displacement 13,300.

The 330 was designed as a cutter, beam is 10'6", and displaces 15,500.
None of these things should effect the wind vane installation though. Let me know how it goes...I'm probably going to do the same.

Regards
DY

The CD33 as originally designed by Carl Allberg was a sloop rigged boat without a bow sprit. The interior was as described below in #3.
The CD330 (of which only 20 were built according to Dave Perry at Robinhood Marine) was a cutter-rigged boat, with a bowsprit. The cockpit had the T-Cockpit and the galley area was completely new to the CD line. It has the ice box/refrig. on the starboard side, while the stove, sinks and dry bin were on the port side. There was a nav station facing the starboard outboard side of the boat. The starboard settee was an L shaped affair, while the port settee was straight. The table dropped down as usual. The head was on the starboard side, as was a hanging locker, with stowage on the port side across from the head. This version was made from 1986 thru 1988, and I am looking for one right now. Write if you know the wherabouts of one for sale.
