Good Old Boat Regatta - Oct 11&12 Annapolis

Post by MarcMcCarron »

I'm excited about the Good Old Boat Regatta - Oct 11&12 Annapolis.
I received conformation that CD's are eligible if the fist hull of the
boat you own was laid in 1975 or before. Since the 1976 production
year qualifies for this definition, most of us are eligible; all Cape Dory
30's ,28's ,27's and 25's fall into this group. If three or more of us
enter our boats we would qualify as a fleet with a first place trophy
awarded to the winner. If we could get five or more boats to enter a first and second place trophy are awarded. SHEARWATER SAILING CLUB's site http://www.shearwatersc.net/races links you to a entrance form .

The link above takes you to last years race report. It sounds like a
very fun weekend with friendly low key racing revolving around shore
parties. For those of us within a reasonable sail of Annapolis, this
could be a great CD get together. Owners from NY to NC could make the race a weekend event (same date and place as the Annapolis boat show) and then cruise the Bay...... Fall on the Chesapeake is something to behold.

All we need are two other CD's to join and we can have fleet status...
Any takers?

Hi Marc
I have thought about doing this regatta for years but sadly do not have the time to put into being the captain in such a race, not to mention lack of experience. However I would be interested in being crew for the race if you or anyone else thinking of signing up want an able body to help out. I would be able to do practice on weekends. Let me know.

I hear the after race shindig is quite a blast.

Happy Sailoring~~~~/)~~~~

thanks for the offer

Thanks for the offer, I may need a crew member but I'm not taking
this race very seriously performance wise. Trim the sails, point the boat
in the right direction and steer a straight line. I'm just looking for an
excuse to sail down to Annapolis and enjoy my "old boat". This
race seems to have a reputation for a laid back approach to the sport.

You are correct in your assumptions and I am not talking about anything overly serious. I am a student (granted an older retread one) and I keep my boat in Chesapeake Beach, so it is hard for me to enter myself in the race and move my boat etc. When I say "training" or "practice" I simply mean a chance to sail together so we don't totally misunderstand each other if you were to ask me to crew. I am not a racer but I have often thought that my sailing skills could be improved by crewing for someone else. I already know how to sail alone, I have done it for years with pleasure but I recognize that there is more to experience and I would like to give any opportunities a try.

I'm having a hard time

I'm having a hard time figuring out why so little interest in
this October event. This is a casual race, has a 8 year history
of fun and friendship and is an excuse to be in Annapolis during the Sailboat show. Bay sailors - are you out there?
