Bronze Garboard plug

Post by valenteach »

I've got a bronze garboard plug on the outside of my CD 24 Trawler's keel that seems to be original ( I didn't put it in and doubt the previous owner did). I am almost certain it is not brass. It has a 3/4" thread ( I believe NPT ) FLUSH/countersunk plug so that it won't snag anything moving through the water. As a preventative measure I want to replace JUST the plug and purchase a backup. The installation is fine but the female 3/8 hex countersunk insert is tired. I can find numerous brass plugs online and in the stores but not a 3/4 inch flush plug of any size let alone bronze, and have been searching online and in hardware/marine stores for weeks. Bronze suppliers for CD parts referred me to auto parts stores, which have come up empty so far. Has anyone purchased a bronze replacement garboard plug recently?

Thanks - Mike

Hamilton Marine has a few different Garboard drain fittings in bronze. It doesn't appear that the sell just the plug as a separate item.
