head sail

Post by myron »

I have a head sail on my CD 25 and would like to know if it is considered 120, 150, 180 or what. The luff is 27 feet, the leach is 25 feet and the foot is 14 feet.
Thanks in advance,

Myron

Myron, according to Bacon Sails a foot of 14.25 gives you a 160% Genoa.

I could be off on this but I suspect the actual LP percentage will depend also on the cut. A high clew reacher, for example, with a foot of 14' will have a smaller LP than a decksweeper with the same length foot. Something like comparing a right triangle with an isosceles triangle (not quite but close).
