The Carolinas Fleet of the CDSOA is hosting a cruise to Ocracoke Island which will take place August 2-5, 2007. All Cape Dory owners, both members and non-members, and families are welcome to participate. The main departure point will be Oriental, NC. The following is a preliminary schedule; if there are any questions or the need for further information, please feel free to contact the Cruise Capt., Dick Turner at 252-634-3404.

For the most effective communications, we will be using Ch. 16 & Ch. 72 for hailing and follow-up conversation, respectively.

The float plan for the weekend is as follows:

Thurs. 8/2:

An early departure is scheduled for Thursday morning, with boats in/around Oriental to rendezvous near Oriental G1 at 0700 hrs. From there we will motor/sail down the Neuse and into the Pamlico Sound. For CDs sailing from Broad Creek, Ball Creek, Belhaven, and points north, plans are to be in the proximity of the “NR” Buoy at approximately 0930 hrs. Arrival at Ocracoke’s Silver Lake should be by early to mid-afternoon by charting the following course using the key waypoints listed:

LAT LONG DESCRIPTION

3459’ 7639’ G “7” Garbacon Shoal @ Oriental
3504’ 7634’ R “6” Gum Thicket Shoal
3506’ 7628’ Bouy “NR”
3507’ 7617’ Tower “BI” @ Brant Is. Shoal
3509’ 7610’ Tower G “5RS” @ Royal Shoal
3510’ 7607’ G “3” @ Royal Shoal
3509’ 7604’ G “1” @ Royal Shoal
3509’ 7600’ G “13” Big Foot Slough
3507’ 7559’ R “6” Big Foot Slough
3506’ 7559’ R “4” Big Foot Slough
3506’ 7559’ R/G Trans @ Silver Lake Chan.

Current plans are to tie-up at the NC State Park Docks. Some may wish to use alternate dockage, i.e., the Anchorage Marina (252-928-6661) or to “drop the hook” in Silver Lake.

Fri. 8/3 and Sat. 8/4:

These two days will be free days for all “Dorians” and “want-to-be Dorians”. This will provide a chance for the “crews” to spend time visiting the island, walking around the Village, shopping, renting bikes, traveling (by bike) to the “best beach in the US”, or just hanging out! Dinner plans for the two evenings will be decided “on board” over libations!

Sun. 8/5:

Return trip departure times will be at the discretion of the various Captains. The decision to depart as a “Fleet” will be made Sat. evening over cocktails.

Misc. Information:

As always, navigation is the responsibility of the Captain, as well as the safety of the vessel and crew. The information contained herein is intended as a guide, and not for explicit navigational purposes.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, as well as letting me know if you plan on joining in on the fun so we will know how many CDs to be on the lookout for.

Fair winds and smooth sailing to and from Ocracoke,

Dick Turner
