Good riggers in Florida...

Post by neil »

Does anyone know of good, professional riggers in Florida?
Im having a bloody hell of a time doing a search for one on Yahoo and Google. All I seem to get is moving company's and boats for sale.
VERY annoying....
I am replacing all of my standing rigging and beefing it up a size and dont feel qualified to do it my self. I want the best wire, the best fittings, and the best possible job as I DONT want anything breaking!

Any help would be great!

THANKS!

Riggers

Post by Boyd »

I have used these guys for years. They have been in Fort Lauderdale forever and are quite highly thought of. I have them step and unstep my mast and bought sails from them. Roger is sometimes slow responding to e-mails so I suggest a phone call

I don't have personal experience with them but one time I did nearly win a door prize from them at a "GOTRP" (Get On The Rail Party) party at the Annapolis Sailboat Show. :D :D :D

Neil,

I've replaced most of my rig through an outfit named Sailing Services, they are out of Miami. They came highly recommended to me,and I have had nothing but good experience dealing with them.

I dealt with a fella named Mark Livine,straight shooter,no B.S.

Thanks you guys!

Also from the place Boyd recommended theres a great rig tuning page:

http://www.riggingandsails.com/spar-rig-tensioning.html

They have a rather great trick for making sure that the mast is centered; use your main halyard as measuring tape to a fixed location on the sides of the boat! I wish I had thought of that, I have always done it by eye and have always been a bit nervous about the results... (also some good stuff about raked spreaders which my boat has)

Cheers,
Neil

JSI in St. Pete, or Sailorman in Ft. Lauderdale

Post by bcgreen51 »

I'm not sure what part of Florida you're in, but I've used both of these: JSI Sailing in St. Pete (http://www.newjsi.com/) has a huge rigging shop. I used them to replace all the standing rigging on my Typhoon. They're very reputable.
If you're in south Florida, you should check out Sailorman in Ft. Lauderdale. Very unique place-- combination of new, used, consignment stuff. They have a fulltime rigger named Bobby.
