Carolinas' Fleet - Ball Creek Cookout and Sail-in

The weekend of May 25, 26, 27, and 28th, the Carolina Fleet will travel to Ball Creek for a cookout (Saturday) and then sail together to Campbell Creek (Sunday Night). Our hosts for this event are: Hans and Greta van Meeteren and first mate Kobus.

The general plan is to arrive early afternoon Saturday, May 26th for a late afternoon cookout and pot-luck dinner at the van Meeteren's. All sailors are asked to bring a dish to share. The following note is from Hans and Greta:
We look forward to hosting our annual Ball Creek get-together next weekend. For those coming by boat: feel free to come out anytime. Please feel free to arrive anytime after 12:00 noon, Saturday. You are welcome to dinghy over anytime after then. If you prefer to come without your dinghy, we'll put ours in the water for shore-to-boat transportation. Just give us a holler, and we'll be ferry people.

We thought it might be fun if everyone would bring a dish to share this time, so there will be a variety of foods available. We will provide ice tea, beer and wine, and everyone is welcome to add to that if they like.
Boat Arrivals
For those coming by boat - and we hope there will be many of you!! - the coordinates for the markers into Ball Creek are listed below. The wildlife markers, as some of you know, are the little guys that are hard to distinguish. Hopefully our information will help you.

Motor Car Arrivals
For those coming by car, here are directions to our house from hwy 55. Take a left (or a right if you are coming from Oriental) on Florence road and drive approx. 7 miles until you come to a fork in the road. There is a little building there that used to be a convenience store. Stay on the left side. Once past the building the first street on your left is Winchester Way. The road makes two 90-degree turns at the beginning. Keep going till the end. Our house is the last one on the left side, there is a small house on the point.

The Fleet will then decide our next destination (weather dependant) for Sunday's departure. Current plans are to motor up to Campbell Creek (Just North of the U.S. Cost Guard Station at Hoboken on the ICW.)

Markers in Ball Creek and Bay River

Bay River - NOAA Markers
Coming up the Bay River, here are the waypoints for the Bay River markers:
  • Bay River Green #1 -- 35° 09.78' N 76° 31.95' W
    Bay River Green # 3 -- 35° 10.81' N 76° 33.50' W
    Bay River Red #4 -- 35° 10.39' N, 76° 36.34' W
Once you pass Red #4, you'll have to follow the small wildlife markers. Coming into Ball Creek from the Bay River, you'll want to stay right between Greens #3 and #5 (#3 astern, #5 on the bow), that is the deeper side of the channel.

Ball Creek Wildlife Markers
Following Markers are Wildlife Markers:
  • Ball Creek Entrance between Green #1 and Red #2 -- 35° 09.81' N 76° 37.60' W

Green #7 is in front of our house, you will see Warrel II in her slip, sticking way out into the creek. Good anchorage is past our dock, on our side of the channel. Remember! Coming into Ball Creek from the Bay River, you'll want to stay right between Greens #3 and #5 (#3 astern, #5 on the bow), that is the deeper side of the channel.
