Johnson Sailmaster Outboard for My CD25

Post by Stu Mitchell »

I'm contemplating the purchase of a Johnson 9.9 Sailmaster outboard for my CD25.My concern is fitting it in the well. The seller is bringing it to the boat to ensure that it will fit before I complete the purchase. The motor is a 1998 leftover; it has a 25" shaft and an electric starter.
I would appreciate any advice from anybody who has had experience in installing that motor. I would also welcome any comments regarding the ease and effectiveness of operation of that motor.
Thanks.

We had an Evinrude 9.9 long shaft with electric start on our CD25. It was a tight fit and required some persuasion in removal and installation. We now have an 8 hp Yachtwin, which is lighter and easier to install. In addition, its smaller size allows a small amount of pivot which is a tremendous help in maneuvering in tight quarters. On the down side the smaller unit is still a two stroke and the boat is slightly underpowered the in heavy conditions. BAA
