Anchor stowing and spreader light

Post by Linda »

I have a 26 CD which is new to me. The boat has an anchor roller but no locker to store its rode. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, I noticed that the lens covering the spreader light on my boat is broken. Anyone know of a source for obtaining a new one? Thanks!

you should have a bronze fitting between the headstay and the forward cleat, a so called deck pipe, with a removable lid that feeds the line down into the chain locker forward of the v berth. clean it first or it stinks up the interior. see Dana's website for a picture. try aquasignal for the deck light if it is like mine. may special order thru west marine.

The best solution is to drill the hole and install a hawse pipe. If esthetics is not a of primary importance, there are less expensive hawse pipes available at your chandlery, but they will not match the rest of the bronze fittings. The ready availabilty of the anchor that the roller and hawse pipe afford you is a safety issue and not a convenience issue. When all else fails, the anchor acts as a parking brake and keeps things under control while you figure out a way to correct the fix you are in. I would have the anchor secured with the rode attached for immediate deployment, therefore arrangement should be of a quick release type. This arrangement has kept me out of deep or shallow trouble on more than one occasion.
