Carolina's Fleet - Summer Trip to Ocracoke

Post by Pete »

Ocracoke, Rendezvous Info:

The Carolinas Fleet of the CDSOA, Inc. is hosting a Cruise to Ocracoke which will take place July 21-23, 2006. All Cape Dory owners, both members and non-members, and families are welcome to attend. The main departure point will be Oriental, North Carolina. This is a rough schedule; if there are any "big issues", please feel free to touch base with the Cruise Captain, Peter Cregger. The float plan for the weekend is as follows:

Fri.:
  • An early departure is scheduled for Friday morning with boats in/around Oriental to rendezvous at the Oriental #1 Marker at 7:00 AM.

From there, we will motor/sail down the Neuse River, into the Pamlico Sound, and over to Ocracoke.

For boats coming down from Broad Creek, Belhaven, and points north, we expect to be around the “Neuse River “NR-Buoy”, around 9:30 AM.

We plan to continue our travels from the “NR-Buoy” to “14BF-Marker”, then follow the main channel into Sliver Lake.

Current plans are to use the NC State Park Docks. Some may wish to use alternate dockage, i.e., the Anchorage Marina or to drop the hook in Silver Lake (captain’s choice).

For the most effective communications we will be using Ch. 16 & Ch.72 for hailing and conversation, respectively.
Sat:
  • Will be a free day for all involved. This will provide a chance for folks to spend the day walking around the village of Ocracoke, shopping, relaxing on the beach or visiting the light house. Dinner plans for Saturday will be decide on site, over cocktails!
Sun.:
  • Departure times will be at the discretion of the various Captains. The decision to depart as a "Fleet" will be discussed over cocktails.

Information
Cape Dory owners are invited to join the flotilla anywhere along the route. Sail with us the whole way or just for a couple of days -- whatever suits your schedule.

As always, navigation is the responsibility of the Captain, as well as the safety of vessel and crew. The information contained herein is intended as a guide, and not for explicit navigational purposes.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions, as well as letting us know if you plan on joining in on the fun so we will know how many CDs to be on the lookout for!

Fair winds and smooth sailing,
Peter Cregger
