Just back from Maine: anyone know these boats?

Just a few of the many Cape Dorys that I ran across on my trip:

This baby was on a mooring in Southwest Harbor:

I expect this is the same 45 I saw back in the same area in '02, this time crossing right under the Deer Isle suspension bridge:

And at the same time, under the bridge, was this Ty which I think I saw later up at Buck Harbor.

The 45 may be Fiona Roise. I chartered her out of Camden a couple of years back. A beautiful boat. I was on her August of 02. I'd attach a picture if I knew how. If I'm remembering correctly, she was in the Marion to Bermuda race this year and did well.

There are three 45's out there. A white one, a dark green one and a navy one. The white one is the charter.

It was in charter with Johansen Boatworks in Rockland, ME (formerly out of Camden, ME). It wasn't in their fleet this season or last season. I don't think it is in charter anywhere now. Johanson told me the owner was planning on using it a lot more.

on the topic of encounters with Cape Dory's while traveling, does anyone on the board own a dark blue Cape Dory titled Ju Ju? It looked to be a 27.

I was in Chicago over Labor Day and we decided to take advantage of the strong winds blowing across Lake Michigan, so rented a J-22 for a couple of hours, which was great. On the way out of the harbor we passed the above boat. The dark blue awlgrip looked very attractive. Much the way that dark blue 45 mentioned above must look quite stunning. Anyway, I searched the registry and didn't see it, so was just wondering if it was anyone's on the board.

We launched in Rockland Mon, Aug 29th, with a bit of rain and fog for a couple of days, but after that the weather was picture-perfect.

From Rockland, we sailed over through the Fox Islands Thoroghfare to Carver Cove. The next day I hopped over next door to Seal Bay while the other boats (there were 5 of us) went on over to McGathery Island. The next day I caught up with them as they were hanging around there until the Katrina remnants blew through.

McGathery Island over to Long Island (Frenchboro) was next

Then up to Mount Desert Island.

From MDI, a short hop to Buckle Harbor, then up to the Benjamin River in Eggemoggin Reach.

Then to Buck Harbor for a harbor tour and next door to Orcut for the night.

Then to Pickering Island and from there to Seal Bay again.

The last night was spent in Perry Creek in the Fox Islands Thorofare, then back to Rockland.

Tod,

Sounds like you had a good cruise. You obviously had some interesting sailing the first couple of days per one photo, but then variety is the spice of life. You and the other four boats disprove the myth that some folks around here seem to have - you need a 40 footer to daysail in Galveston Bay. Maybe they just have a lot more money than I do.

Please let us know when you add this cruise on your website.

Great pics and a great cruise. The fog doesn't seem too bad for Maine... you can still see the bouy. (Last I was there we poked around for it with the boat hook.)

sounds like all five of you had a nice trip, were you on your m17 or on your larger boat the 26 or was it a 28. sorry.
i have not ask how it was going in a long time on restoring you larger boat.

He's getting a bit old and arthritic to much enjoy the boat, so he stayed home with Grandma and her cute beagle named Pearl.

The Maine trip was made on the small boat. I'm just gearing up to start on the 26. This week I'll be ordering a carport to cover her so she can start drying out. There are some soft spots in the deck and a ton of things to do before she'll see water again.

Last winter I had her under a tarp, but that was a waste of time and money as it developed a billion leaks midway through the winter despite supposedly being of "higher quality".
