CD 30 spec's

Post by Michael »

Could someone measure, or does anyone know by heart, the distance between the port bulkhead and the outside of the engine compartment?

I just purchased a CD30 in NC and would like to get a new stove for her. Currently the sink is there and a two burner alcohol stove is aft of it (with faucets right in front of it?!).

Is that the original layout? In the plans it looks like it was reversed and also makes more sense to me!

Any way if you know the width of that space and could give me some input in layout/ease of use I would really appreciate it!

Thanks

Michael

Michael,
No, that is not the original layout for the galley. Originally, there was a two burner with oven, gimbaled Seaward alcohol stove fore and aft behind a half bulkhead at the aft end of the port settee. The aft end of the stove, left side as you look at it, was connected to an atwartships bulkhead that contained the sink. You would face aft to be directly in front of the sink, the stove would then be on your right. Next to the sink, there is a small counter space and then the engine compartment cover/companionway ladder.

It sounds like someone made a major change to your layout. I think I have the original interior line drawing for a CD-30. If you would like it, E-mail me a Fax number and I'll send it to you.

Dave-

That's totally what I thought! Someone must have put a 2 burner cooker
into the old sink space and put the sink where the oven was with some
cabinetspace underneath. I would like to return it to the original
layout since I think cooking is more important than doing dishes :-)

I would really appreciate if you could e-mail me the interior line
drawings!

Thank you so much in advance!

Michael,

What you describe sounds like just what someone did. I will get the layout drawings tonight when I go home, and fax them to you tomorrow. By the way, Seaward Corp. in California was the original supplier of the two burner with oven alchol range. I believe that they still make the same stove. The stove is gimbaled, there is a two gallon alcohol tank(don't EVER put more than a gallon in it!) on the forward bulkhead of the port lazzerette outboard of the diesel fuel tank. Seaward's support is great! When I bought Hanalei last spring I removed the stove and tank from the boat, took it home and completely rebuilt it. Seaward told me how to do it and even supplied the parts($5 per burner)for FREE! If you search this site on Seaward or Hillerange, you'll see a lengthy discussion of this project. Seaward's telephone number is (562)699-7997. I'm not sure if you provided a FAX number, but I will check back to your messages. By the way, after rebuilding the stove, I set it up in the kitchen at home and baked a potatoe in it just to make sure it worked with no leaks. Works great!
