Name Decals

Post by Rootski »

I have a design for the name of my boat, made in Photoshop in an obscure font, that I want made into a decal. All the decal companies online don't seem to be able/willing to just accept a design through e-mail and print it out on a decal sheet.

Does anyone know any place I can send my design to be made into a decal? So far these places idea of custom is "pick a font and a color", but I want to get more in-depth than that. Thanks.

Go to a real signmaker. They should be able to do that for you. If you want standard vinyl-type letters, but with a custom font, again most real signmakers can do that, but they will want vector-based art, not a raster image that you will get from Photoshop. Most of these companies will probably specify an Illustrator or Freehand eps with all type converted to outlines or curves.

If you can't find a local shop, I've used this local company: The Signery.

I used Accept Graphics in Annapolis, I too found the online places way too limiting in what they offered. I was extreamly pleased with Accent though, they can accomplish just about anything you can dream up. And their font selection is staggering, they may well already have the font your using. Or be able to use your photoshop document Its worth giving them a call.

Not as cheap as the online places, I paid I htink $90 for custom name and hailing port.

We also designed our name and hailing port on our computer. We brought our printout to a company called FASTSIGNS. They were able to enlarge the image to fit the transom in vinyl letters (based on the dimensions we provided). The only tricky part was trying to center it on the transom. My avatar is showing me using a small squeegee to help keep the air bubbles out while applying the letters to the transom. We spent about $36 in 2002. Good Luck!
