Soundings

Post by M.Marroni »

I recently moved from the East Coast (Hingham, MA) to Portland, Oregon. I have read a monthly paper called "Soundings" for years but I am dismayed that they do not have a West Coast edition. I still get the Northeast edition but would like advice from any West Coast sailor on a western equivalent. "Soundings" has great articles, updates for mariners, and the best classified section around.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Mark, like you I was a long time reader of Soundings, even back when an annual subscription ran around $4.00! I also had withdrawal problems when we moved to the west coast but that was quickly solved as soon as I found Latitude 38 (37? to me it's just Latitude). It is indeed the west coast paper to read, and to be honest, I find it far superior and more interesting than Soundings. I recommend you prowl around your marinas or marine supply places, Latitude is free for the taking in those places. YOu can also do a search on the web, they've got a web site, and if necessary, you can also subscribe for mail deliver.

The web-site for Latitude 38 is, not surprisingly,

http://www.latitude38.com/

Another good West Coast magazine is 48 North, published in Seattle:
