prospective 1977 CD30 owner

Am about to buy a CD30 with the original Yanmar 12HP. Does anyone have info/impressions on performance, parts availability, is it possible to hand-crank the engine?
Also there seem to be stress cracks at the cockpit-cabin joint and aft of the main. Are those common - due to thick gel-coat or could there be fiberglass damage underneath?
Thanks in advance

Michael

Not unusual for there to be cosmetic crazing. A survey will tell you if there is any structural damage. (You're gonna have the boat surveyed, right??)

Michael,

Sounds like you've found a boat. Congratulations and wishes for many warm and windy days in the New Year!

I have a 1977 CD30 with the original Yanmar YSB12 engine. It runs like a champ. I haven't bought any spares but it came with some that the old owner bought in 1995. There it a sprocket on the crankshaft for a hand start mechanism. The Cape Dory manual recommends against hand starting, and they didn't buy them with the engines. I plan to add a hand crank this year. I do not know if they can still be obtained from Yanmar.
