compression post for Ty

After reading all of the comments about installing a compression post I have decided to do one similar to Dave Disbonnet's design with a single stainless post and a "screw jack" all-thread to adjust the degree of support. The question that I have is : Can I support the mast compression by placing the base on the cabin liner below the mast? If I use a wide support plate will this spread out the load or should I cut a hole in the cabin floor (where the porta potty goes)? I really don't want to cut this hole but if I must - I must!
