Compare CD27 & CD28

Post by Rick »

We are considering purchasing an under 30' sailboat for weekend family cruising and daysailing in midcoast Maine. We like what we've seen of CDs. We are wondering about owners' perceptions of the difference in performance, accomodations, value, etc. of the CD27 versus the CD28.

The 28 was part of the "big boat" line and the 27 was still considered a "small boat" by Cape Dory. The 28 is much more livable and a better sailer: however, we have cruised with friends on a 27 and they didn't get too far behind our 28. If you plan to overnight with the "family", 3, 4 people, the 27 may be tight.

Good hunting

I agree with Kim somewhat. We had a 27 and loved the way it sailed especailly in stronger breezes. I always felt safe and under control. Much of my sailing was single handed and I found the 27 very easy to single hand with a tillerpilot. I lived aboard for a few months and it was most comfortable. With three aboard it was a bit tight. Two is fine.
Good luck with it.
Bob
