Looking at a '77 CD28 with full keel. There are only 2 hand
winches. One on top of the back end of the cabin, and another
on the starboard side near the tiller. Is there supposed to
be another winch on the port side for the jib sheet? Is the
winch on top of the cabin for the halyard? The boat is out of
the water with all the rigging removed. Not sure of its condition,
They are asking 18K.

'77 CD28 hand winch locations, are there more than 2?

Scott,
The CD28 came with a self tending club-footed jib. The winch on the cabin top is for the jib sheet. My CD (also a '77) also has port and stbd cockpit winches for the genoa sheets. Halyards are lead to winches on the mast.

I used to own a CD28 Hull 13 that had no winches for jib sheets. Apparantly the previous owner used only the club footed jib. I installed 2 winches using Sparten Marine winch bases and purchased a 130 jib. I think jib sheet winches were options back then. I don't know why someone would install only one! Perhaps they never sailed on starboard tack. The winch on the cabin top is for the self tending club footed jib.Scott Aument wrote: Looking at a '77 CD28 with full keel. There are only 2 hand
