Headroom in CD27 cabin is just over 5'9". Our longest cruise was for a year and the two of us found the boat comfortable and safe. We re powered in 1998 with the Yanmar 2GM20F - the extra power was well appreciated.

Disappearance
Loren,
Just wondering where you and the Admiral are now? You went off my radar over a year ago. Are you back in NYS or still down south?
Miss you guys,
O J
Now we can get back to the thread.

Yanmar 2GM20F in a CD27
Loren,
I was interested to learn you repowered your 27 with the 2gm20f.
Was it difficult to do? Did you have to reconfigure the engine compartment (I hesitate to call it an engine "room")?
Swapping 20hp for my little YSM8 seems very attractive if it is not
prohibitively expensive.

re power & whereabouts
OJ,
We went to the Keys for the winter of 2008-09. Since then we've pretty much been dirt dwellers. We continue to cruise Lake Ontario and sail out of Chaumont Bay.
Ron,
I did the re power work - the mounting bed had to be modified slightly. The engine was a tight fit and I rebuilt the steps into the cabin and extended it by few inches into the cabin. The 18hp is a bit over powered but has worked great for the 3000hrs of operation so far. Yanmar's current 2 cylinder is a bit smaller and less hp so may actually be an easier fit. Many people have installed a Beta - not sure what hp. Not sure of current prices but mine was about $5500 in 1998 if I remember right. I justified it as we had hopes of some long trips - the good news is that many 1000's of miles later we have lots of great memories and hope to make more.
Good luck - lots of CD27s have re powered and there's lots of advice on this board.
