So a group a snails gathered their resources and built a NASCAR racing machine. They called themselves "Team S" and requested permission to paint an "S" on their car's doors (rather than their assigned number).

When asked by NASCAR officials why they wanted to display an "S" rather then their assigned number. They replied....

There's no way to find words to express my sympathy for the hard-working people of the Gulf Coast and for the growing threat to the waters and ways of life that they have enjoyed for so many centuries.

Instead of selecting a city for the overlay, I chose a state. The spill is larger than Delaware and is still growing. It won't be long before it's as large as the next state that's larger than Delaware -- New Jersey. I sure hope they find a resolution soon.

If the slick gets into the Florida straits and the Gulf Stream, the east coast will be in trouble. Now they want to drill in the Artic.

As someone who works for a conservation organization trying to protect a very pristine wild area known and loved by many, I deal with policy, setting up rules for complex and risky business not unlike drilling for oil 5,000 feet and 150 atmospheres down in the ocean. It is a tiring game with diminishing returns we are playing with our environment.

Sailing is by definition, the act of being in harmony with it. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get the majority of decision makers to enjoy our waters as we do, get them out on a windy day, so we damn sure set up safe practices and support our leaders who are brave enough to say no to truly environmentally risky ventures?

I think I can speak for all of us up here in the Northland sailing centers by saying we are hoping for the best for our southern brethren down in the gulf.
