OMG! "What a Bloody Great Day to Go Sailing" is hilarious! How is it that I never heard this one?

Todd,
Do you sail on the lakes ??
Also. That’s quite a tail about the feuding lightkeepers. Not very “Christian” exactly.

Fred,
Sandusky, Ohio, on Lake Erie, is my home port, but as my boat is small enough to trailer, I've had her up to Lake Huron a few times as well as a few other places. Each area has their own unique atmosphere and attraction.

My Dad who is now 100 grew up in Erie. I have long long ago memories of visits there to see his folks.
We’d ride the Erie Lackawanna line all the way from NewJersey. An adventure for a little boy.
It was a different time
Cheers

Hi Fred, all good songs.fmueller wrote:Can’t go sailing ? Singing about it might help ...
Of course there’s Christopher Cross ...
I like especially:
“Christian Island” Gordon Lightfoot

Edit: I went and found Christian Island which is at the southeast end of Georgian Bay, Lake Huron. Georgian Bay is the “papoose”” of Lake Huron.

I have a long play list of songs for sailing. But here is one I enjoy you may not of heard of. I first heard Don Clayton’s “Sailing” down in the Virgin Islands on Trade Wind Radio. Don’t watch the vid. Just listen to the song.

Hahahaa! I'm glad you enjoy, Carl. It always cracks me up, especially while out having a great day on the water, sailing.Carl Thunberg wrote:OMG! "What a Bloody Great Day to Go Sailing" is hilarious! How is it that I never heard this one?

John,
That's a nice one ...
I'm going to post this one cause my boat is still in the water (ice???) and it's starting to seem "normal" going out - which I've done at least once a week since summer became fall and fall now winter.

Well this is timely:
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/13/styl ... e=Homepage
Apparently and obviously shantys were really work songs used partly to organize the timing of effort in for instance raising sails and so forth. Boat crews had dedicated shanty men.
I’m thinking I could use a tax shanty to help me get thru that drudge ...
You know “file away boys, file away - to the taxman ya always pays - so file away file away”. Or something.

"What a Bloody Great Day to Go Sailing" could be my new favorite song. Never heard it before.
On another note "The Downeaster Alexa" always makes me crazy with the inaccuracy of his course. As all of you other swamp yankees know if you plotted a course from Montauk to the Vineyard you would pass "The Block" (shows as New shoreham on the attached map) then to the Vineyard. However his lyrics "but tonight I am Nantucket bound" don't make sense. If on a course from Montauk to the Vineyard he can not be Nantucket bound as Nantucket is due east of the Vineyard. I guess that is what they call poetic license.
