Chris,
It's interesting that you say that about the outboard. Just this weekend I was thinking how glad I am to have the outboard hanging off my CD 22 stern and not shoved in a well. I was parallel parking along the dock and can use the outboard like a combination motor and stern thruster. (The boat in front of me is a beautiful Typhoon restoration and I am scared to death of dinging it.)

The throttle/tiller for the outboard in the well-mounted TY Senior is very convenient, as the skipper can move it in tandem with the tiller and achieve a much tighter turning radius than can be achieved with the tiller alone. The disadvantages of a lazarette-mounted outboard are: 1) They can't be tilted up when not in use, so the water intakes have to be cleaned and the engine flushed with fresh water regularly to prevent eventual overheating problems (when I had a TY Senior I would take it off its mount and put it in the cabin if I wasn't going to go sailing for a while) and 2) The sound of the water sloshing around can be annoying to some. On the other hand, I have no idea how anyone can lean all the way back over the lazarette cover of a CD 22 and reach the throttle/tiller on a stern-mounted OB on a CD 22 while also turning the tiller (I've read that some use an extender) - why I went with the 22D where the engine control lever is conveniently located near the tiller.
