Bob: I'm curious on one thing... after the notch modification, do you pull the starter rope under or over the traveler?

Bob: Excellent! Thanks. I was thinking about lowering the metal (aluminum?) angles, re-drilling their holes in the well, etc. However, I may just go your route. The notch would be easier. I'm thinking about redoing the bracket (the wood) with a couple pieces of thick plywood epoxied together and sheathed in fiberglass. Take care.

The mount on may last CD25 was very flimsy when I bought her. I don't know if it was original or not but I had it beefed up and lowered before she was splashed. She had also come with an old 9.9 monster the soon replaced 6hp 4-stroke. And that engine spent most all of it's time on the cabin sole...

FL Dan - I pull the starter rope over top of the traveler. It is a clear pull - the bottom of the hatch actually touches the top of the motor, so it is above the level of the traveler.

PS: The primary reason I kept the outboard in the cabin was due to brackish water and marine growth. The second reason was to reduce drag when racing, and the third? Because I learned how to sail in and out of my marina slip...

just replaced my mount with all the suggestions found on this site. note: i added new backing plates of starboard and new SS hardware to boot.

the notch cut out allows my hatch to close but i find my tohatsu doesnt run well with cover down.

any other tohatsu owners find issue here?

Check to see if you have an exhaust port above water. If so, you probably need to attach some tubing to it that you can route under water and aft of the stern.

Are you saying the exhaust port might be the issue for poor operation with hatch closed?

If the exhaust can't exit the well and there is poor ventilation in the well then the oxygen in the well will be replaced by carbon monoxide and there will be no combustion. I had this problem on my Yankee Dolphin 24. I tapped a pipe into the exhaust and put an exhaust port on the transom then connected the two with flexible hose and the problem was solved.
