We bought our 31 in '13 and love it. It had some nice upgrades (inter protected bottom, big solar panel, davits, rebuilt cylinder head, new tranny, rebuilt: alternator, both water pumps, starter).
But some other problems surfaced: leaking water heater, leaking water tanks, old hard to clean potable water hoses, quirky head.
All in all we can't complain.
The other guys advised, in addition to a survey, finding a good marine mechanic to inspect the engine prior to purchase. I would suggest you also find a good marine electrician as well as a good rigger for prepurchase evaluations.
Be sure the surveyor inspects the entire deck for moisture, not just a few areas.
Prior to purchase, we also asked the PO for the name of his mechanic and called him. Very useful.
Good luck with your search. You'll love your 31. One of the best designs in the CD line.
