The rule for getting the best price for anything is to expose it to as many people as you possibly can. Ebay is that place. I agree with Seahunt to keep bumping your ad here on this board, as anyone "in the know" specifically looking for a Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender should be looking here first. But anyone just looking for a very, very sharp classic daysailer could be using any one of a number of resources, and *lots* of people check Ebay first.
Just my dos centavos....

2. FWIW, I would stay away from Craigs List and eBay, etc. They are generally not frequented by folks looking for a classic 35 year old sailboat.
When I was looking at getting a Ty I thought I would have to go to the ocean coasts to get one. That seemed where they all were. Then I searched Cape Dory Typhoon Craigslist and that's where I found the two in Michigan I went to look at. Like Gary H says I wouldn't rule out craigslist.

Just be careful when you're selling. As may have been mentioned earlier in this thread, the scammers are out there... they'll appear overly eager to buy what you're selling but all they really want is your bank account information and/or they'll pay with a bogus "certified check" which will eventually bounce back to you. (If it's too good to be true... )Jim1945 wrote:Sea Hunt Video said:

I preface my remarks by stating I have never bought or sold anything in ebay or Craig's List. My only exposure to these sights is anecdotal information from relatives and friends.
If you are looking to BUY a Cape Dory, checking ebay or Craig's List may be a good idea. You may well find a serious seller like Jeff.
If you are looking to SELL a Cape Dory, I guess you can post on ebay or Craig's List but from anecdotal information it seems like a lot of so-called "buyers" of sailboats who go to ebay or Craig's list are either "tire kickers" (boom/mast kickers ) or are looking to buy a classic Cape Dory sailboat (or other classic sailboat) for pennies on the dollar. You will deal with a lot of people who may be curious but are not serious. You waste time showing them your Cape Dory - that is, if they even show up on the agreed upon date.
Just the thoughts of a dinosaur who knows little to nothing about computers, websites, buying or selling on line, etc.

Jeff-- consider an add in the Chautauqua Lake ( western New York ) Craigslist in the spring. Nice boat for that area. Roger
