A couple suggestions regarding the use of sea water to flush and I am in this group. Drinkable fresh water is a valuable commodity.
Do not short the flush. Perhaps at night when you don't want to wake everybody up, but make sure you pump enough water to move most of the "stuff" out of the hose.
From time to time use an acid to clear any scale. Vinegar helps, but it is very mild and slow. Muriatic acid is much faster but industrial strength isn't something you want to store or dilute on board. I have found "The Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner" is very effective and fairly safe to use. It is about 20% muriatic acid and will cut the scale from inside the hose and tank. I pour a bottle in the head and pump it dry, then get out of the cabin for about 15 minutes. After about 15 - 20 minutes I give it a real good flush nearly filling the tank which I then have pumped out. It can be found in most hardware stores and Dollar Stores.
Should I also point out it is the best hull cleaner I have found. Wear gloves and apply by squirting it just above the stain and spread it with a brush or small roller - wait a couple minutes and rinse. It took about a half hour to clean my 35 foot boat after last winters trip from Annapolis to the Bahamas and back. No harsher on the environment than the expensive hull cleaners, cheaper and easier to use.
