Gents, all good advice. I have to admit to wanting a guage to validate my hillbilly method, i.e., Dick's method is hillbilly but it works.
In all my Cat sailing days, I used pretty much the same method as you indicate Dick. Plus we raked our masts for whatever reason. I think we all pretty much knew that it was the thing to do. The faster the better.
And I must agree with you on this Dick, I'm in it for the cruise. I'll be watching that cuddy with a careful eye but as long as something doesn't go "pop" I'll be a happy Dory owner.
I am part of a Sailing Club so I will definitely inquire about the guage from them though too....it would be good training!
