Cape Dory 25 & Honda 5hp Outboard

no holes solution
I couldn't bring myself to put a hole in my hatch cover so I lopped off the engine control arm instead. I hack sawed right through the control arm removing several inches and leaving only about a 2-inch stub of the rubber handle on my Honda 5 hp four stroke. It works fine, I can close the hatch cover completely and I can steer in reverse by pivoting the engine. And its now a lot easier to get the engine in and out of the well. Of course the engine has little value for other purposes but I'm planning to use it up in my CD25 anyway. And the engine will be shot long before my hole-free boat is.

Nissan 8hp in well
I put a Nissan 8 horse 4 stroke in my CD25, and it was quite a job. I had to fabricate new motor mounts and build an extension onto the lazarette lid. The motor is heavy but I am able to wrestle it out for maintenance by lifting it on the main sheet. I will say that all that horsepower makes for a very understressed engine.
