what is it ?

I already knew the line was polyester. It was the "white stuff" used to finish the splice that I wanted to find out about.
MDR whip end is red. Anyone know about a white dip ?

White Dip

Star Brite Whip-it comes in white, black, red, green and clear. I have never used the stuff. I usually taper the splices as others have suggested and just trim off any surplus fuzz with a good pair of scissors. (Don't tell Melissa I use her Ginghers!)

The MDR product is available in several colors as noted here:

As many before you have already discovered, Google is a good friend (and a reasonably profitable investment).

I used to whip everything the traditional way but never got efficient with my technique. I replaced all running rigging a few years back and found it a daunting task to whip all those new ends, so instead I got some of the mentioned 'whip it' and did this...... on each end cut a 5/8" length of anchor electrical heat shrink tubing,(adhesive lined) was added and shrunk, then dipped twice in the liquid whip. I have had good results with this method and it looks pretty good too. I used red, white, and yellow shrink and clear dip. Not as salty as the real thing but it saved a lot of time.
