More on Stonington
Looks like a nice crowd for the 24th...10 registrations so far. Anyone interested in Cape Dorys, owner or not, is welcome. OK, you don't have to be interested, you just have to have a good smile and you qualify. But please register. You can just show up, no law against it, but it's politer to register. Please review the information so you know what to expect when and where. That'll keep you one step ahead of us .
Stonington is a great place to visit, even if you've been there numerous times. Here are some links to check out so you can do a walking tour with new eyes.

If you like walking with a camera, here are some (OK, too many) pictures I've taken in the Borough and the harbour. You can do better, but these will give you an idea of why you want to take a camera with you.

Stonington Float in WARNING
NOTICE: If you come into the docks at Dodson Boatyard and see a really pretty Typhoon on mooring J1 you might be tempted to circle her in admiration. Especially if 2 smiling, handsome (OK, old geezers) are aboard waving welcoming arms.
BUT, if you draw more than 2 1/2 feet take note!! There is NO water north of us except at high tide. Well, there's some, but not much. So don't actually circle us. Stay south of Echo. (She's the only Ty in the harbor with a green sailcover.)

Picnic or restaurant
Weather will determine how many of us want to opt for a restaurant, but some may know now that they would prefer that option. If you let me know as soon as you've figured it, out it will make for smoother planning.
if you like the idea of rafting for supper, make that known, too. In any event, we want to be sure no one ends up eating alone and we'd like to minimize last minute confusion. Stonington and a Saturday night are a busy restaurant combo.
We also want to make sure no one feels a potluck contribution is required. If we are doing a picnic in the park, bring your own supper. And IF, only IF, you have something to share, that's great. On some boats that can present a problem. We don't want to give you problems!
We'll do ice and some sodas, chips and salsa. Someone else can do the escargots, flaming pears, etc.

Keep checking here
Keep your eyes here, folks, so incase I miss someone with last minute information you won't suffer cluelessness. (If I don't rely on my memory, you shouldn't, either )
An option for those who don't want to do a restaurant, and who also feel that food prep on a boat is not spelled v-a-c-a-t-i-o-n, I'm going to check with the Dogwatch Cafe (in the boatyard, reasonable, very good) and see if you could phone in a take-out order. I'll let you know. (The crab cakes there are the best in CT.)
Oh? You haven't registered yet? Remember, you don't have to float in. You can drive in.
if you don't register and want to show up anyway, bring an hors d'oeuvre to reinforce your humble and abject apologies, OK? Cold Coronas also acceptable.

Whether sailing or driving....
It doesn't matter whether you "float-in" on your boat or arrive by car, you should still register. How? It's easy, just click on the link below, fill out the online form, then click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the form page. That's it, can't get any easier.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye
The DogWatch Cafe, right in the boatyard, will do take out for you. They ask that you place your order by 5 PM and pick it up close to 5:30. They have a tiny and very busy kitchen. www.dogwatchcafe.com. phone is 860-415-4510. They have great sandwiches, chowder, burgers, crab cakes and more substantial meals, too. Their scallops come right of the boats at the fishing wharf and are a treat. (You can also buy them at the fish store on the pier.)
There is a Saturday 10 AM architecture walk that starts at the boatyard. If you would like to join this, phone 860-535-8445. This seems a really fun way to learn more about Stonington. if we weren't otherwise busy that morning, we'd sign up!
There's a Farmers' Market by the fishing wharf Saturday morning.
Lots to do and like in Stonington!

Last minute info
We're looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow night. We'll bring ice, chips, salsa, plastic cups, tonic water and some seltzer. And we'll be hanging around waiting for you. Gathering time is 5, in the little park across the street from Dodson. Remember that they monitor ch 78. My cellphone is 860-388-7686.
Here's some scoop. It's going to be hot. And humid. I'm thinking a lot of you will be in a frame of mind for air conditioned restaurant. Noah's (on the main drag, 1/2 way down Water Street) is the only one that takes reservations on weekends. It's small, nice, good seafood, casual, reasonably priced. So I have made reservations for 8 at 6:45 PM. Please tell me if I should revise those numbers. The sooner you let me know your inclinations the better I can plan. If we'll be fewer than 8, I'd like to let the restaurant know early so as not to be a pain in the neck. I can phone them while we have drinks.
May you have a beam reach,
Sally and Paul
