Well, unless I hear from anybody else this afternoon, it looks like we're going to have a rather intimate group this year with only 11 or 12 people on 4 or 5 Cape Dorys floating in to Northport Harbor on July 3rd to spend the holiday weekend together.
When you get to Northport Harbor, anchor in the area indicated in the chartlet on the event document:
http://www.capedory.org/fleetevents/NE- ... n_info.pdf
So be sure to print the document, look it over, and bring it with you to Northport.
Don't forget to monitor VHF Ch. 16 and 78 -- hail on 16, switch to 78. If you need to get in touch with other float-in participants, hail "Cape Dory Fleet". Anyone who hears anybody hailing "Cape Dory Fleet" should respond and switch to 78. Of course, you may hail the individual boats. So far they are:
- CD31 Oryx -- Skip & Jane Sutcliffe
CD28 Spartina -- George & Maria Hoffman
CD28 Sleipnir -- Matt, Alex and Bill Lydon
CD30 Compinche -- Mike Mascaros [not definite (may visit on Saturday 7/3)]
CD27 Sine Qua Non -- Warren & Julie Kaplan
Arriving by car on Thursday 7/1 -- Bruce & Cathy Monaghan
<center>[DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR DINK!]</center>
If you are the first boat to arrive in the harbor, take the time to get your dinghy ready and don't turn off your VHF. Row, paddle, motor or swim over to the next arriving Cape Dory, say "Hi" and introduce yourself -- don't wait for them to come to you. With any luck, Skip & Jane Sutcliffe, since they've got the largest boat, will allow everyone to rendezvous aboard their CD31 Oryx for cocktails and the potluck dinner. Would anyone like to share with the rest of us what they're bringing to the potluck(s)? Also let us know if you're sticking around on Sunday as well. Just "Reply All" to the email I sent the group earlier. Bruce and I can bring the paper plates, plastic cups, plasticware, napkins, and a big trash bag -- even ice!
Bruce and I will be arriving by car on Thursday around 4:00 PM. We'll be staying at the Carr B&B in Asharoken on Eaton's Neck -- 631-757-1625. (You'll be sailing past Eaton's Neck on the way in to Huntington Bay.) Bruce will have his cell phone with him, so we can be reached at 732-319-0255. Call us as soon as your boat has settled back on her anchor to let us know you've arrived. Don't forget -- we will need to be picked up by one of you via dinghy. Once there, we can decide on the best pick-up point -- either Duck Cove, Asharoken Beach or from the Northport town dock.
For those sticking around on Sunday, July 4th:
- If you're wondering what you can do with yourself all day on Sunday, the Vanderbilt Museum & Planetarium in Centerport is hosting their 4th of July "Vanderfest" from noon to 5:00 PM. We'll have our car, so we can drive people to the museum for the festival. The Asharoken fireworks can also be viewed from the museum grounds. General admission; $7 for adults, $6 for students and seniors, $3 for children 12 and under. Admission for those who wish to attend only the fireworks will be $5. Click on the link below for additional info:

Here's a little info about the Asharoken/Northport fireworks which will be shot Sunday evening off Asharoken Beach: http://www.asharoken.com/newsnotices.htm
Hopefully I've covered everything, if not, "Reply All" to that email and ask away, but keep in mind that we'll be on the road tomorrow (Thursday) on our way to Northport. If you need to contact either me or Bruce Thursday thru Monday, a phone call would be better. Our cell number is also in that email (and you'll find it above).
See ya on the 3rd,
Cathy
