Mike,
One of my favorite anchorages on the Vineyard is Lake Tashmoo. The entrance is a bit tricky, but well marked. Once inside, there is excellent holding ground and shelter. If you go to the head of the "lake," you can sometimes tie up to Ralph Packer's big, white buoys (reserved for oil barges during hurricanes). It's an easy walk into Vineyard Haven.

Joe,
I have always wanted to go in there. I came close once but then chickened out. Next time I'm in the area I will give it a go!!!!!!
Just had a look on Goggle Earth (love that), doesn't look much tricker than Menemsha.

The Artist is not born to a life of pleasure.
He must not live idle;
he has hard work to perform,
and one which often proves a cross to be borne.
He must realize that his every deed, feeling, and thought
are raw but sure material from which his work is to arise,
That he is free in Art but not in life.

Video of Lake Tashmoo
Mike, take a look at this video of a catboat on Lake Tashmoo from YouTube http://tinyurl.com/Catboat-on-Lake-Tashmoo. The catboat looks a bit like my Marshall Sanderling.

Ed,
Thanks !!! That's a great clip. A couple of weekends ago I was out on LIS cruising along when I spotted a bunch of cats. It was a mini reguarda with about 8-9 cats racing. I fell in behind them to sail along and admire. Damned if I couldn't pass them by Broad reach with their huge mains those kittens were flying. I rounded the mark with them and tried my best to pass em by....a fun afternoon

Catboat "Belle" is aptly named
Ed,
Thanks for the clip!
"Belle" is a wooden catboat, one of many beautiful wooden boats found in the Vineyard Haven area.
I'm pretty sure she's moored in Tashmoo, because I've seen her there several times.

BTW, when Lynne and I first started visiting Tashmoo, we were sailing a Marshall Sanderling, which mean we could go right to the head of the lake, near the old water company. With the 25D, we can't go quite so far up the lake.
