A motor of that size would produce a lot of torque, which would twist the strut that it hangs from. The length of the strut would magnify that effect. How does one strengthen the hull to distribute these loads? Does the motor conversion supplier provide guidelines? I see what look like large threaded "keel" bolts but these need to go into something inside the hull that is not there in the original hull design.
I think the benefits of electric power could be quickly offset by chronic leaks up the keel bolts from the hull to strut joint. How did you prevent that?
Thanks.

warrenscape, Michael Abramson,
My Cape Dory is the Intrepid model, which has a fin keel. I put the pod between the keel and the skeg, just a bit forward of where the inboard shaft came through. I poured a two-part, urethane casting compound, inside the hull to build up a level block to bolt to.
Michael Abramson,
The first time I put her in she did leak up the bolts. It requires a liberal application of GE 4800 sealant underneath the mounting blocks. This sealed her up fine. I had no further problems after that.
I went into this purchase with the understanding that this is experimental technology. So far I'm happy with it but that was just one season. It will take several seasons to really judge whether this is the way to go or not.
