True and I agree you can never know exactly what the forces will be and exactly how the boat will react.
I was speaking from my experience departing a slip into a fairway where my first turn while backing is into a prevailing wind. There is no question the bow will want to go the wrong way. Several strategies can be employed, depending on wind speed... the last being just stay put. I've rarely been surprised if I bother to assess the wind before I toss the lines off.

Travel lift
I found the best way to back TIA MARI (1979 CD27) was to have the boat yard use their Travel List. Worked perfectly.
