typhoon portlights

Post by Ray Murray »

I just removed my port hole covers with the thought that I would have them chromed.

To my dismay they are plastic!!!!!

I know there are various suppliers out there that can supply me with new bronze port hole but the dimensions are wrong.

My dimension are inside diameter 4 3/16"
the outside is 5 3/8"

does anyone know if I can get the exact replacement part?

and if all else fails can you chrome plastic??

please help if you can.

thanks

bronze ports

Hi Ray, Bristol Bronze has them . They were designed for Typhoons. I bought a set and am very happy, even the screw holes lined up. Rob

Opening Bronze

Post by Tim Mertinooke »

Although expensive ($300 when I did it) I replaced my static ports with 4" opening bronze ports from Mariner's Hardware. They fit nicely in the existing holes and required very little modification to make the exterior ring fit properly. The two original Spartan ports were then mounted into the companionway bulkhead in the cockpit one on each side. I really like the look, it makes an already classy looking boat look more classy. I'll post some pictures later. Tim

Tim,

I would love to see those pictures of the new portlights. I too, have entertained thoughts of replacing the existing with bronze opening portlights. The price has been the only thing holding me back. Also, I saw from your profilethat you bought a new boat. Congrats. I lok forward to seing you out on the Merrimac.
