cleaning dock lines the right way

Post by Bill Stebbins »

After 5 weeks on the intracoastal followed by the Erie Canal and the Trent Severn Canal, my dock lines went from white to dark gray. I have been told that the washing machine for braided line is a bad idea because of unraveling. I am considering the bathtub with Ivory detergent. Suggestions?

coil your lines into a woolite solution. it will clean them and the oil in woolite gives the lines a nice hand too. try it for all your lines. a little bleach helps with whitening. not too much !

We have washed braided dock lines and found that they indeed do unravel. SO we put them into a pillow case, tied the pillow case shut and washed the whole shebang..Worked. Add the woolite as noted in one of the posts, and you will be happy.
