On tonight's news, I heard the weatherman say that today was the 41st day of above average temperatures. Over the weekend and yesterday, the temperature was in the mid 60°s, reaching for 70°.
Even though the air temperature tends to get low during the night, the lake's large mass contains the heat from last summer and influences the area downwind late into the winter season.
Well, guess what?. The lake's temperature has finally cooled down and we are now exposed to the *Lake Effect* that is imminent to all who reside in the lee of the harsh winter winds from off the lake.
Up to this point, we have received total snow measured in 100ths of an inch. Any snow that did fall, you could still see the grass above it and it would usually melt away by 10:00 AM.
Tonight, the snow machine will turn on. The weatherman cautiously predicts maybe 10" of the white stuff for tonight and another 12" for tomorrow. Wheeee. woo hoo That's more like it.

PS: Lake Ontario doesn't have a lock on this. This is a common occurence on all the Great Lakes and many other large bodies of sweet water in the wintertime.
