I just bought a 1973 Typhoon weekender. THe boat is in great shape, but my interior cushions need to be replaced. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?
I also seem to have a leak(s). I think they are coming from the hull deck joint. Has anyone had experience with this?
I am about ready to put her in the water for the first time for me (the first time the boat has been in the water in 17 years). A big day.

Jerry:
I would think it's unlikely that your leaks are coming from the hull to deck joint. I don't believe that problem has ever come up here. Do you have a manual? You can download one from this site. It shows the hull to deck joint.
Leaks are more likely to come from poorly bedded fittings, i.e. cleats, chocks, stanchions. A good winter project would be for you to remove and rebed everthing. By doing this you will not only fix the leaks but you'll prevent deck future delamination or discover any the boat may have.
Good Luck,

Re: typhoon cushions; leaks
Do a search of this board for cushions and you will find a message that gives the name and phone number for a company that originally made the cushions for Cape Dory. I spoke with them a week ago and they have several Typhoon sets (I believe $150 for covers) unfortunately only in off white and a plaid style, not the blue that my boat has. I agree on the leak that it is probably a fitting problem. During my last sail I began to hear a new sound, not groaning or a good boat sound but a popping noise. I hove to and went below to track it down, found the source of it to be a new delamination of the starboard chainplate area. No cracks, but it came from a poorly bedded chainplate. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your Typhoon.I just bought a 1973 Typhoon weekender. THe boat is in great shape, but my interior cushions need to be replaced. Jerry- Get inside the cabin, close her up, and have someone spray the boat with a hose. Hit the port on the foredeck, the cabin portlights, and the chainplates. Remove the inspection ports in the cabin and feel up under the chainplates. The leak will probably be from one of these areas.

Re: typhoon cushions; leaks
The leaks could be coming from the toe rail fasteners. You have to remove the rail and rebed every screw, a nice off season job. It is very unlikely that water is leaking from the hull/deck joint. Fix the leaks before you get new cushions. Good luck and have fun with your new boat. John Danicic CD Typhoon Moana hull 911I just bought a 1973 Typhoon weekender.
