Teak Cover!

Post by Lew Gresham »

Is the teak hatch cover a modification on this Typhoon by the owner, or is it original factory design?

Thanks!
Lew

Definitely a modification to gain access to the lazarette.

Teak Hatch Cover

Post by Oswego John »

Lew,

Can't say for sure.

My guess is that it is an add-on by the PO. I, personally, have never seen a hatch cover like that shown.

There have been many complaints over the years by Ty owners that it was very difficult to do any work in that area. It is just for that reason that possibly the PO installed the hatch.

BTW, in the early years of Ty production, CD made the cuddy hatch covers out of teak. The slatted bench seats in the cockpit, too.

O J, is this the model you mentioned? I remembered having this on my site.

Thanks!

Ty Hatch Cover

Lew,

That's very close. My Weekender is a 1969 model (best that I can tell). Same hatch cover, very similar bench seats.

One main difference is that the cabin vertical bulkhead is also made out of teak. Actually 3/4" marine plywood with teak veneer facing the cockpit.

A golden oldie.
