Does the 2GM20F throw off a CD27's trim

Wondering if the 2GM20F in a CD 27 causes the boat to squat? Specs say it's a lot heavier than the YSM8. Comments from those with first hand experience would be appreciated. If weight is added forward to rebalance the boat, does she sit lower, overall, and sail differently? Thanks.

I replaced a YSM8 with a Beta BZ482, which, at 200 lbs, is about 30 lbs lighter than the 2GM. It did not affect trim. The boot stripe is still level.

Maybe someone changed it in the past?

What about other changes to the boat, water tanks, spares, junk, extra anchors, tools. Those add up.

Is there a specific issue, that prompted this question?

I'm narrowing my boat search down and one of the 27s I'm interested in was repowered with the larger Yanmar. I had a bad experience repowering a powerboat with a heavier engine in the past, so I thought I'd ask. Research has shown me that the 2GM20 is only about 30 pounds heavier than the YSM8, so I don't foresee a problem.

The last batch of CD27s had the larger Yanmar and Westerbeke's installed....should be no problem. You will like the extra power when you need to go directly into the wind with a heavy chop. If you do notice a little squat, throw another 20' of chain on your rode up front and you'll be good.

Not commenting on whether you'll notice what seems to be a 30 lb. weight difference, but to answer your questions...

Weight anywhere makes the boat sit lower, overall. It's just by balancing the added weight fore and aft, you keep the (now a bit lower) waterline level.

Sail differently? Anytime you add weight, you sail differently. 30 lbs won't make a difference to most skippers. Others don't let crew on board until they've cut the handles off their tooth brushes.

Second Chance is a 1980 year boat that was repowered on or about 1985 w/ the 2GM20F. Why, I dont know, so dont ask. I never been on a CD27 w/ the original one banger, so have nothing to compare it to. HOWEVER, as long as the prop is reasonable clean, have never had a problem w/ engine power, as well as the boat looking reasonably balanced, sailing, etc. Parts are easily available for it, along w/ information and advice.
