Bending Teak

Post by Don Kolenda »

How does one go about bending or curving pieces or lengths of teak trim to a desired contour. I've heard it involves soaking the wood in water or a solution and then afixing it, clamping or mounting in place then; the piece drying and retaining that "bend"??? Any hints or references?

depends- a little curve, like a toerail will bend with brute force. steam bending is for compound curves like wood boat frames and requires green wood. for simple jobs, like a tiller, lamination is easy.
