Good evening allo
There is a short (4"? long)) 1" wide track on the underside of my boom about 12" from the aft end of the boom. Does anyone else have one? Does anyone know its purpose?
Thanks,
JBA

Boom track
Don't have such an animal on my Typhoon but I suspect it will may have been used for the clew outhaul in some fashion or maybe used to attach a pulley for the mainsheet. Do you have the usual stainless double ended strap in the end of the boom. One end for the mainsheet pulley and one to hook it to the back stay strop when at a mooring?

On the underside of the boom?!

I don't remember ever seeing a track along the underside of the boom.
A reef line would use the side of the boom.
I could be an experiment by the PO.

Zspar boom from Rigrite
Check the Rigrite site, as it seems you have a Zspar boom. I clipped this:
Boom Bail Assembly - 20mm Heavy-duty: Z-3044AW:
Welded SS Boom Bail fits in integral track in underside of Z160, Z204, and other boom sections with a 20mm wide track. As Z-3044A (above), but bail is welded in position and does not articulate. Formed plate is 2mm thick and measures 3 1/8" (80mm) long x 13/16" (20mm) wide. Fastens with (2) 3/16" (5mm) rivets.
