I recently purchased a '74 Typhoon Weekender. This is my first CD but I have admired them for a long time. She is in the water and in decent shape. Hopefully I will be able to shine her up this winter. Excited to have her and be back sailing.

More of us every day

Hey! Congrats! I got a Typhoon Weekender two weeks back and today was the first day out. I had to do some really serious cleaning of the bottom - it had a beard, for crying out loud. Then a few other fix-ups and today we went out on our high mountain lake. Forget about the high wind warning!

Since there was that warning, however, and because I was going on the maiden voyage of the Valaskjalf with my two small children, I decided to double reef it and leave the jib in the cabin. I rather like learning about a new boat when it's underpowered to begin with. What a dream! Obviously we couldn't go too close to the wind, but the absence of the jib didn't hurt that bad. The warning was correct, and it was very windy on the lake in that maddeningly mountainesque way of going from 30kts to 2kts to 30kts to 0kts. Granted, I had double reefed, but when the hard winds would come up the Typhoon would just settle in beautifully. I am impressed and deeply in love, now. I wish you the same experience.
