Anyone done away with the club boom on the CD 36 inner staysail? Among other things, I'm in a quandry as to where to put a windlass, and the choices are to raise the club mount 2" or do away with the boom entirely...which also has advantages. Looking for ideas on sheet leads etc.

CD36 Cutter: Loose-footed Staysail Conversion???

Re: CD36 Cutter: Loose-footed Staysail Conversion???
Bill: I've got a CD 31 so the configuration may be a little different, but I didn't want to lose the self tending feature of having a boom on the staysail. I mounted the windlass on the aft end of the bowsprit with the starboard side of the windlass hanging off the starboard side of the bowsprit. I throughbolted it, of course, with spacers under the bolt holes that hung in space. That way the hawse hole only has to go through the deck and I put a piece of PVC pipe through the deck and up to the base of the windlass so that water cant run in there. The staysail stay is handy to hang on to when you're working the windlass. The bowsprit works like a big thick pad to spread the strain, but I still put back up plates below. I can send a picture if you consider this location.Anyone done away with the club boom on the CD 36 inner staysail? I'd be very interested in your experience if you decide to go without the club boom (my shins would be happy to see it go!). At the moment, I'm searching for someone who can advise me on a state of the art racing/cruising sailplan for a cutter rig. All the sailmakers I've talked to want to delete the staysail entirely or at least disregard it for upwind performance.
