Transient slips at McCotters

Post by Judith »

I think someone asked whether McCotters, right next door to WYCC, might have transient slips. We checked with them this past weekend: they don't have dedicated transient slips, but customarily put folks in whatever's available.

We were told to count on 5-6 as a reasonably safe bet--although at the time we checked, there were almost double that number. Also, slips wouldn't all right together, but we did notice several slots within a short distance on the same dock. Phone (252) 975-2174.

McCotters

Post by Ron Turner »

Judith,

That was me, the Cruise Captain for our Dog Days cruise. Thanks for the info. Stay tuned for the final details. WYCC should let me know this Saturday if they can accommodate the 5 or so CD's that have expressed interest. That would be Pete, Dick, Scott, Ken and myself.
How were the dinner options from your local contacts?

Town Dock?

Post by Pete »

What has anyone found out about the Town Dock and possible availability for us, in case the YC doesn't work?

Washington Waterfront Docks

Pete (and all the other Dog Days cruisers)

The Dockmaster can be reached at 252-975-9367.
They do take reservations for the paid slips. I do not know what their cancellation policy is. The no frills dockspace is FCFS. I should know this weekend about the WYCC.

No Frills?

Post by Parfait's Provider »

Maybe we can have an informal race to the no-frills space. How much is there?

The T-Docks with W/E are in foreground the bulkhead docks extend out to the upper right. The showers are to the left lower corner.

Campbell Creek Anchorage?

Post by Parfait's Provider »

Hi!

Looks like I might be picking up additional crew somewhere on Friday evening, August 25, and I am thinking about getting the dinghy to the boat ramp on NC 33 after anchoring in Campbell Creek. Is there enough water in there somewhere for Parfait? We need a place that we can leave a car and the ramp area definitely has parking. Opinions? Other ideas most appreciated.

What's the story on Washington? YC? McCotter's? Public docks?

Thanks.

Hobucken

Post by Ron Turner »

Hobucken is best closest place I know of in that part of the country. I don't think I'd leave a car out in the back swamps there unattended. It is probably an hour and a half from Hobucken to Indian Is (at CD speed). I've got an alum "dink?" with 6 horse OB that could cut that time down to 30 min if that would help.

Rest of Washington details await my return visit this weekend to do a little face to face talk.

Where to Park in Hobucken?

Post by Parfait's Provider »

Ron,

Thanks for the clue about swamp parking. I didn't want to jump to any conclusions, but I was already wondering about that.

Where in Hobucken would you pick? I know the piers south of the CG station, is there a place to safely park overnight? I see a basin east of there towards Hobucken. Is that a marina that might be manned most of the time? From the satellite photos, it looks like there are ramps.

Thanks for the dink offer, we might need to take you up on it; my Grady would be a real drag, but a great ride. I am hoping we don't have to backtrack very far, even by dinghy. My inflatable would be a real slow ride.

You didn't comment on Campbell Creek. Seems to me that you and Andy have suggested that before?

Final plan

Post by Ron Turner »

You've been waiting for it, and here it is.

Saturday overnight at the Town Docks. You can call for a reservation at 252-975-9367 ext 221.

Dinner will be in town at a restaurant TBD. They were mostly all closed today as we came back through town. One or two have meeting rooms that should hold us. I'll place some phone calls this week. If anyone has food allergies let me know so I can crank that into the equation.

I met Judith and Warren at McCotters. Nice boat and nice folks too.

The only fuel up that way is at the WYCC , cash and check only no CC for fuel.

Pete will post the final cruise notice soon up on a sticky.

The cruise notice has been posted on the sticky section.

I had to add two items to it. Dinner has been finalized and the River Dunes marina location was claified.

Sorry about that.
