Opinions on CD 30-B

Post by brian »

I am considering the purchase of a CD 30-B. The B version has a head and locker area in place of the v-berth forward. She is cutter rigged. My sailing will be in the northeast: LI Sound, Buzzards Bay, Vineyard Sound, Nantucket Sound, Block Island Sound. etc.

Any opinons on this boat from owners or those who have sailed one?

Thanks,
Brian P.

Brian - The layout of the 30"B" adds a nice bit of space in the main salon. However, I have been told that the use of the head during an active sea can be a challenging experience. If you are a person who has a tough time stomaching Mr Toads Wild Ride then it may be an unpleasant experience. On the other hand, if you are sailing mainly in the protected waters of LI Sound then the ride may be acceptable.

Brian:

We sail a CD30B in Florida an love the layout. It is great for two people. The quarter berth takes care of all the STUFF we bring on each cruise. We love to open large area of the cabin. The head is only about 2 feet forward of the one in the standard version. We find it a fine cruising boat. We keep a small generator (Yamaha) under the folding table rather than buying another battery. We have added refrigeration to the box and air conditioning so we cruise the boat year round. We removed the staysail added 60 feet of chain and a small mechanical windlass and wander Florida and the local gulf anchorages without a problem sleeping at anchor. She (CRYSTAL) is a great boat. Hull #358 built in 1985 and sails out of the ST. Charles Yacht Club in Fort MYers. If you have any questions we will try to help. Good Luck......73....de Marv Birdt.....KI6BO
