Oh I'm jealous. Just looking at your pictures fills me with good memories. I need to learn how to post pictures. Maybe I'll try that tonight after work.
We sailed out to the Bight in 20 kts and 5 ft seas the other week and had the place to ourselves practically for a few nights. It blew 20 for a couple of days and made it pleasant to lie at anchor. The afternoon thunderstorms were scary but short lived. I was surprised to see the big Catamaran and the big toothy lookout express will come out there in pretty brisk conditions.
The Lookout Express called in a Securite' in reference to a young man that got on his boogie board to go and rescue his fishing boat that dragged and blew off to Shackleford during a blow. I was watching, or trying to, in heavy rain and wind and I thought that's what was going on, but couldn't quite tell.
I'm planning a southward voyage this fall, trying to put the pieces together now. We'll see about insurance into Florida and the Bahamas. May have to scrap it.
scott,
boat looks great. my ketch is #122. do you really live aboard? i just repowered mystic rose with a volvo D-120, and i am playing with the prop trying to get it just right.
are you running the md7a with a 13lh12 prop? do you get hull speed with that set up?
Mine is #143. The hull is dated 10-10-79-B. Yes, still running the MD7A but have no idea what prop it is other than being a 3-blade. It has no problem keeping the boat at hull speed. Still runs great at 26 years old (knock on wood). There's little room for sailing on the ICW between here and Oriental,NC so any trip north mean motoring. Very pleased so far.

Chase
I'd like to see the pictures of your journey if you can figure it out. As far as the sea conditions here, it can get pretty ugly at times especially in the Inlet. I'm impressed though with how well the CD30 handles it so far. When passed by the big fishing boats in past years on my CD26, I'd be thrown from beam to beam. Much more comfortable now.
Have a '83 CD30 cutter with the MD7a that I will be repowering with the Volvo D1-20 in September. Any words of wisdom that you might like to share? Are you happy with the results and is there a reason that you chose Volvo over so many other alternatives?
you can email me at darmoose NOSPAM at bellsouth dot net and i will tell you all about it. give me your email.
