Main Sheet for Typhoon

Hi,

I recently purchased a Typhoon Weekender and love the boat. I'm in the process of upgrading and updating the hardware. Of particular interest is the mainsheet.The position of the cam cleat is really bad.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has modified their mainsheet at all or if anyone has any suggestions.

PS- Do all the Typhoons have Lewmar #5 winches? Anyone out there have #6's?

Yes modified. All that wonderful, not sure. My friend's Typhoon is moored near mine and he has the original mainsheet rigging. The option is to use some multiple purchase blocks with the cam built into the lower fiddle block. Difference is that you move the sheet down instead of up to clear the cam cleat. Problem is that in light air down wind the lower fiddle block rests on it's side and clunks against the boat every time the wind flutters the sail. If you get hold of a Harken catalog, they have a reference section in the back that shows a wonderous array of choices for mainsheet purchase.
Winches...yes, my 1984 Typhoon (hull 1700) has Lewmar #6 winches.

I had the same problem of the lower fiddle block falling on its side in light wind. Its annoying and it wears away the finish on the teak. West Marine has a small spring which fits over the shackle and keeps the block upright. A very easy and helpful upgrade!

CD Typhoon "Regalo"

I have a traveler across the stern with a fiddle block clam system held up by a spring. I also installed a 1/4 inch rod of brass on top of the teak trim to keep the block from scratching the wood whenever the sail is slack. That works the best. The traveler is nice in heavy wind. I modified our Typhoon with a Harken traveler system and a 5:1 fiddleblock system with integral cam-cleat. It works very well. E-mail me if you want more specifics.
