Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod

Post by Brandon »

Although I live in Florida, I travel to Mass. at least 2 times per year to visit Parents and siblings. They live in Wareham, right next to Buzzards Bay, and is "the Gateway to Cape Cod". Just wondering if there are any other CD'ers in that area that would want an extra line handler when I visit this summer?!

(I have some really good rum that I bet you've never tried before!)
The road goes ever on and on,
And I must follow it if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it meets some place
Where many paths and errands meet,
And whither then I cannot say.

Hey Brenno,

Creme Brulee, my 25D, sails out of Squeteague Harbor, in Bourne, across the bay from Wareham. There are also plenty of CDers on the mainland side of the bay.

As I almost always sail singlehanded, I'd be happy to have another hand. Send an e-mail when you know when you're going to be in the area.

(I'll be out of the area between July 3 and July 18, but around the rest of the time.)

I'll send you

a message when I know when I'll be up there. That would be great to sail on another 25D, I'm sure you've learned a few tricks about her that I should know.... secondly... do you like rum? :D

It's not Buzzards Bay, but LIQUIDITY is in Quincy, which is a short ride. If the rum is really special, I could be pursuaded. Do it on the right day and we could take Joe with us, too, as he works right here.

Alright!

Sounds like I better start stocking up on the rum. And, oh yes, it is very special.

Right across the bay in Onset

Post by Chris Reinke »

Brenno - Drop me a note when you know when you are coming to The Cape. I have a CD330 which is currently in NY, but should be heading back to Onset soon....once the motor is finished being rebuilt. My father and I have a place 5 minutes away in Onset and always welcome crew. He is retired and spends most of the summer solo sailing in Buzzards Bay, so extra crew is welcome. I usually have my wife and kids along which is always exciting.

Special Rum

Post by Joe Myerson »

Brenno:

Neil and I have a penchant for single malt scotches, but special rum would be a great addition to our tastes, I'm sure. After all, what can be more salty than rum.

Arghghghgh!

Sailing classes for youngsters in Buzzards Bay

Post by Brandon »

I have a 12 yr old Brother (yes, there is a big age difference) that I would really like to get into sailing. I know there has to be a lot of choices, but I've never lived there, so I don't know... What kind of sailing classes are offered in the Wareham/Onset area for the summer? What kind of costs are involved? I feel a responsibility to get him into sailing now that he has reached the age where he could understand how to do it. Any suggestions?

I don't know about classes ( they should be available at a number of places) but Buzzards Bay will offer some exilerating and challenging conditions on summer afternoons. A great place to learn to sail.

Back again!

Post by Brandon »

Hello everyone! It's been at least a month since I've been able to check the board. Things have changed for me greatly in the past 6 weeks. Just before 4th of July I left the 110' Feadship I was working as mate on, and got my first Captains gig on a 68' Sunseeker (or Stinkpotter). It's a great job, with a really nice owner. The reason I'm posting is because I am based in Greenwich, Ct. now... and I know that alot of you are on Long Island Sound. The owner uses the boat alot, which means I'm in either Oyster Bay, Sag Harbor, Nantucket, Martha's Vinyard, Newport, ect... But when we are not in those places the boat is sitting at either Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich, or Stamford Landing Marina (... in Stamford...). So if anyone is in this area and has a Cape Dory, and want's an extra hand, let me know! My poor little baby is sitting all alone in Hurricane Alley. I don't think she's going to be very happy when I get back!
It would be great to throw up a sail on a CD while I'm up here!

Thanks! Brenno

Storage space on board being what it is, I use an all purpose mug for drinking, whether it be coffee, single malt or whatever. For land use though, I'd definitely prefer drinking from an official single malt penchant.

(Back in a bit; off to search eBay!)

Isn't a penchant the kind of bottle used by Haig & Haig?

Any old container to drink decent grog with will do me in a PINCH.
OMG, did I really come up with that, sorry. I didn't have much material to work with, so I SQUEZZED it out.

Sorry,

I've been known to drink indecent grog in a pinch, too.

Pinch bottles are also favoured for bottling little ships. (I've been tempted for some time to bottle a little model of LIQUIDITY.)
