Handheld VHF Battery Woes

Post by Clay Stalker »

I have a Standard Horizon HX350 handheld VHF that I've had for about 4 years. At this point, the NiCad battery is toast, just will not seem to hold a charge at all. I do still have the AA battery tray, so the thing still works. I know some on this board have this unit, and am wondering if anyone knows how I can get a replacement battery for it....thanks.

Battery

Clay

Try a Google search for CNB350. This is the part number and a lot of places have them. They aren't inexpensive. The "normal" boating stores didn't show up i the search.

At 4 years you did pretty darn good for a NiCad battery.

Battery Replacement

Post by Richard G. »

It is a CNB 350. You can find it but it is expensive. The cheapest that I have seen it is for about $94 or so and up to $112.

Hi Clay,

Just use Google and search on "Standard Horizon HX350 replacement battery" or "Standard Horizon CNB350".

Anyway, here are some more sources:
I think dogbyte computer had the best price ($91.90). Have fun shopping!

same radio same problem

Hi Clay, have never been too impressed with handheld( I also have a Standard Horizon ) other than the obvious reason of being able to have it in your hand. I have replaced my antennae wire and antennae so reception problems have been eliminated, plus someone who had bought a new handheld gave me his old VHF. If his new radios battery are up to snuff I will call him on his old radio and tell him thank you for solving my problems at hand.

If it were me....

I would buy another new handheld and keep the old one in a ditch bag with fresh batteries. It would be ready to use without worrying about whether the handheld battery is charged or not in case of an emergency. Just use the batteries in the harness.

Hey, two handhelds gives you more options.
